HOW TO MAKE SURE YOUR MIDI-SKIRT IS SARTORIALLY UP TO DATE? JUST ADD PLEATS

Pleated skirts have fast become a wardrobe staple and over the last couple of seasons have been seen on the catwalks from Gucci to Victoria Beckham, Chloe to Stella McCartney.

For me they are an essential classic piece for every season and can be styled up or down for any occasion. As NEW spring / summer stock flies on to the shelves there are plenty to choose from, be it from the variety of colours, fabrics and styles. There is one to suit every budget, preference and shape.

They may seem like a tricky trend to wear, but once you find the right length and pleat for you, you’re onto a winning look day or night. If you’re petite like me then opt for a midi skirt length but if you're tall then you can get away with a longer length.

Not just for day time, it can be dressed up with a camisole and heels or embellished flats for an night out. If your style is slightly edgier, wear yours with a statement slogan tee (still everywhere this season) boots or the ever faithful trainer. I'm always on the look out for a luxe fabric like metallics (my favourite silver pleated skirt is Asda) and faux leather to dress up a plain tee, crew neck or floaty blouse.

Check out all the usual high street suspects for a great selection Zara, HM, Mango and Topshop but my favourite is &otherstories, floaty chiffon ensures that they hang really well whether you're sitting or walking around. They have a concealed hook and side zipper waist band, it took me a while but they are meant to be worn on your waist (i'm a bugger for wearing low rise) and they really are very flattering. They are true to size, I have an 8 - you have space but they stay in place. Every season they bring out different prints and colours - here are the best..
