BRINGING OPEN AIR EVENTS TO LIFE

Firefly Events UK has been set up by Alice, Andrea and Jan, three individuals (and friends) who are passionate in bringing open air events to life with local outdoor film screening.

Tell me, a little bit about yourselves...

How did you start Firefly Events UK?

The idea of Pop Up Cinemas came initially from Alice. She was blown away by the atmosphere and social gathering at a festival pop up cinema. She then brought the idea to Andrea and Jan who loved it and wanted to get involved. “ After a lot of research” explains Alice “I could see there was a big gap in the market for a company like ours that wants to create well run, memorable events that people want to come back to time and again.” There has been a lot of interest already so we think Alice was right!

What are your next events?

We have a number of upcoming events run by our customers, including golf courses, hotels and a school. In addition, we are selling tickets to our own events. We will be showing Top Gun on the 24th August and Harry Potter & the Philosophers Stone on the 25th August, both at the stunning grounds of Culden Faw Estate in Hambleden, where they host Tough Mudder. Hopefully our events will be more relaxing though!

What inspires you?

Alice - Travel. I want to see as much of the world as I possibly can.

Andrea – My Family and other Amazing Humans – I’m inspired by the great, loving and funny things that people do. It’s fantastic to see someone you love enjoying themselves.

Jan - people who grab the bull by the horns and make the most of life.

What did you want to be growing up?

Alice - A vet or a shopkeeper!

Andrea – A Barrister, a Lorry Driver.

Jan - I can’t believe it, I wanted to be a lorry driver too!! Either that, or a photographic journalist.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Alice - Apart from having happy children which sounds a bit cheesy, renovating properties and setting up my previous business.

Andrea – Sorry but yes, my two gorgeous kids...oh and Tough Mudder!

Jan - apart from my kids, many years of riding a motorbike around Europe, trekking to Matchu Pichu. I think the best is yet to come!

What’s next on your to do list?

We have a massive to do list at Firefly. Securing some great winter venues for Christmas, working with some fantastic chefs to bring together a Pop-up Cinema to a restaurant. Maybe even floating a film on the Thames. Our minds are buzzing with ideas.

When are you happiest?

Alice - Getting my hands dirty at work, I am not very good at sitting behind a desk. Alternatively, I like being on holiday :)

Andrea – Apart from when I’m with my friends and family, being at bootcamp #immortalfitness makes me happy – running and jumping and all sorts with fantastic fit ladies in Hambledon.

Jan - when I’m with friends and family, experiencing something new or doing something which pushes me outside my comfort zone.

When was the last time you laughed out loud?

Alice - This morning when my son Albie did his horse impression.

Andrea – Out with some girl friends for dinner. The conversation of 40 year old ladies is absolutely hysterical.

Jan - watching my little boy wear my shoes around the house. Oops, maybe I shouldn’t say that in public!

How as women, can we help to empower others?

Alice - By giving things a go, I think we all spend a lot of time thinking about doing something but not actually doing it. I don't want to be sitting in my rocking chair when I am 80 saying what if?

Andrea – By supporting other women. I love the quote “Behind every successful woman, is a tribe of other successful women who have her back”. Why would you not?

Jan - lead by example and encourage others to be daring and follow their instincts.

What’s your style?

Alice - Relaxed, never happier than when I am wearing a pair of jeans

Andrea – Lycra, Jeans, t-shirt, trainers or flip flops. I would like to glam it up a bit though so your #stylishschoolrun blog is definitely giving me some ideas. The School Run doesn’t have to be boring!

Jan - I love to dress up but rarely get the opportunity to nowadays.

Guilty pleasure?

Alice - Watching Greys Anatomy with an ice cold can of coke and a pack Monster Munch

Andrea – Elderflower Gin and Fever Tree Tonic, pork scratching's, Absolute 90s radio......I’m going to stop there as you said pleasure not pleasures!

Jan - Marks & Spencer Cherry Liqueurs. OMG they’re amazing!

Life motto?

Alice - Live life

Andrea- Be positive and try and treat everyone kindly

Jan - carpe diem, seize the day.

Can’t live without…

Alice - My family

Andrea – Coffee in the morning...and...my family and friends

Jan - LOVE (& cherry liqueurs)
